Somalia: Strengthening Community Capacity to Withstand Climate Shocks

Somalia is a war-torn country that is also highly affected by climate-induced events, like unpredictable droughts and flooding. Such shocks often hit hardest on people with low resilience, who are already facing food insecurity and loss of assets.

Action for Women and Children Concern (AWCC) Somalia seeks sustainable solutions that are cost effective and require active community participation. In collaboration with local government and mobile phone service providers, the project will develop a unique SMS system tailored to local seasonal calendars to inform communities in advance to better prepare .

The initiative is supported by Cities Alliance Innovation and Climate Change programmes, through the Innovation Programme Call for Proposals 2020, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and with support from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
