Anticipated Results

The LAVIL programme works to achieve the following intermediate results:

1.  Strengthened city governance, planning, and service provision. Employee training, increased transparency, and greater citizen involvement will lead to more effective and accountable management, improving city governance. A development strategy will provide a pathway to stimulate economic growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance citizens' quality of life.

A new Community Upgrading Fund will finance local projects to improve community infrastructure and services.
Implementing a solid, efficient waste management system will improve urban cleanliness, protect the environment, and contribute to public health. The development of a strong municipal association will enable better coordination of local initiatives and encourages the active participation of citizens and organisations in public affairs.

2.  Economic activity of public markets supported. Public markets are vital for local economies, serving as hubs for direct consumer-trader interaction. Enhancing these markets through infrastructure improvements, financial and educational support for traders, and community involvement will significantly boost their vibrancy and sustainability, fostering economic growth and social cohesion.

3.  A deeper institutional relationship between the city and civil society. Training in public communication will enable town hall employees to better communicate with citizens and civil society organisations, thus improving relations.

4.  A strengthened sustainable municipal finance system. Increased diversification of municipal revenue sources through effective implementation of local taxes and development of income-generating activities will ensure stable and sustainable financial management.
