Cities Alliance is seeking a Senior Urban Specialist to join its team in Brussels. The successful candidate will oversee initiatives related to social housing, slum upgrading, basic services provision, and urban poverty, with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Senior Urban Specialist will play a crucial role in achieving program results and advancing thought leadership in urban development, thereby reinforcing the visibility and image of the Cities Alliance as an effective service provider in sustainable development.

Key responsibilities:
  • Lead programmatic activities related to social housing, slum upgrading, basic services provision, and urban poverty.
  • Develop new programs and projects aligned with global urban development priorities.
  • Seek additional funding opportunities and prepare funding proposals.
  • Provide expert support for regional and sub-regional activities in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Represent the Cities Alliance at conferences and meetings.
Requirements:
  • Advanced university degree in housing, architecture, civil engineering, urban planning, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in international cooperation and urban development.
  • Experience in project and program management, with a focus on slum upgrading and basic services provision.
  • Field experience in development projects, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of French is considered an asset.

Contract: 

  • UN P4 / Fixed-Term Appointment
  • One year initially, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
