In response to the increasing challenges faced by rural-urban migrants, urban poor, and displaced communities in Asia, Cities Alliance is launching two pilot projects in Cambodia and Thailand. These pilots are designed to address the complex needs of vulnerable populations, particularly in areas where government support is limited and traditional humanitarian aid difficult to implement.
To support this process Cities Alliance launches a Call for Proposals (CfP) to enable partner cities, local governments, the private sector, host communities, migrants, and the forcibly displaced to design and implement approaches that provide equal access to quality public services, labour market integration, and economic opportunities.
Phnom Penh, Cambodia Pilot: Enhancing Public Services and Work Access in Informal Settlements. This collaborative project aims to improve the lives of residents in Phnom Penh’s urban slums, focusing on the inclusion of migrants from Cambodia’s provinces. The initiatives are designed to enhance living conditions, bolster resilience to natural disasters, and foster inclusive urban development.
Mae Sot, Thailand Pilot: Supporting Community Efforts for Displaced Persons in Border Towns. This project seeks to harness the collective expertise and commitment of urban self-help and small community organisations to work towards greater social and economic inclusion of all urban residents in Mae Sot.
Cities Alliance seeks project proposals that will support city stakeholders in three intervention areas:
- Secondary city stakeholders utilise provided financial and technical assistance to improve labour market integration for migrants, displaced persons, and host communities.
- Secondary city stakeholders utilise provided financial and technical assistance to improve the gender-responsive, climate-resilient and sustainable provision of basic services for migrants, displaced persons, and host communities.
- Secondary city stakeholders utilise provided financial and technical assistance to address persistent gender inequalities with contextually relevant responses by including a local organisation with a gender equality mandate for the design, implementation and evaluation of the project.
The CfP is part of Cities Alliance's Resilient Systems of Secondary Cities and Migration Dynamics Programme.
