Global agendas including the 2030 Agenda, the Paris Agreement and the New Urban Agenda all have urban dimensions, and cities will have to play an important role in their implementation and follow-up. While the agendas recognise the central role national governments play in follow-up and review, less attention is paid to how cities can support the process. A clearer view of how local and regional governments can participate in follow-up and review will help the support the implementation of all three agendas.
The Cities Alliance Joint Work Programme (JWP) on Cities in the Global Agendas commissioned this report to develop recommendations for strengthening the synergistic follow-up and review of the urban dimension of the global agendas, and to explore opportunities for a stronger involvement of local and regional governments and their partners in the process.
