Cities Alliance Discussion Paper #2: Conceptualising Equitable Economic Growth in Cities
This paper explores the idea of equitable economic growth as a first step towards forming a Cities Alliance initiative to promote equitable economic growth in urban contexts.
This paper explores the notion of equitable economic growth as a first step towards forming a Cities Alliance initiative to promote equitable economic growth in urban contexts in the developing world. It has three specific aims to:
1. Develop a comprehensive conceptualisation of equitable economic growth.
2. Address the operationalisation of equitable economic growth approaches in urban contexts.
3. Explore various international organisations’ recent engagement with equitable or inclusive economic growth.
Prepared by Andrés Rodríguez-Pose and Callum Wilkie of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), this paper was produced as part of the Cities Alliance Joint Work Programme (JWP) on Equitable Economic Growth in Cities. The members of the JWP are: the UK Department for International Development (DFID), Ministry of Cities Brazil, UN-Habitat, Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and Clare Short, Cities Alliance Senior Policy Advisor.
