The move is part of the city’s efforts to make Lagos Island slum-free and to cope with the city’s impending megacity status, which is expected to be reached in 2015.
At an interactive forum in Lagos Island last week, LASURA General Manager Yusuf Sulaimon explained the present administration’s new plans to rid the state of slums and uneven development.
He told residents that it had become an imperative for LASURA to begin sensitizing people in the area so that development could take place in a coordinated way.
The forum would provide the authority with the opportunity to jump start redevelopment on the island, Sulaimon said. He added that the redevelopment would begin once residents embrace the regeneration initiative, which is expected to be replicated in other areas.
Sulaimon, a town planner, remarked that Lagos’ impending status as megacity means all parties must work together to rid the state of uncoordinated development.
