An e-book edition of Decentralization and Local Democracy in the World: First Global Report by United Cities and Local Governments is now available.
The report, which was co-financed by the Cities Alliance, is part of a UCLG initiative to analyze the advances and possible reverses to local democracy and decentralization around the world on a regular basis. It is also the first global comparative analysis of the situation of local authorities in every region in the world.
It clearly shows that local democracy is gaining momentum across the globe, even if important aspects have yet to be accomplished.
The 2008 GOLD Report is a co-publication of the World Bank and the UCLG.
