The buildings and construction sector contributes to 21 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions and is far from achieving decarbonization by 2050. To address this pressing issue, ministers and high-level representatives from across the globe will convene at the Buildings and Climate Global Forum on March 7-8, 2024, in Paris.
Co-organized by France and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and supported by the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction, the Forum aims to build upon global efforts towards sustainable construction. Discussions will centre on building decarbonization and resilience, with governments urged to endorse a framework for action.
The Forum follows the momentum generated by the successful launch of the Buildings Breakthrough initiative at COP28, which aims to establish near-zero-emission and resilient buildings as the new standard by 2030.
Sustainable construction requires a just transition that makes it not only climate-friendly but also affordable, attractive and attainable for the urban poor.

In alignment with its strategic approach to sustainable construction and the circular economy in the informal sector, as well as the promotion of inclusive cities and a just transition, Cities Alliance is co-organizing two sessions and moderating one of the high-level dialogues at the Forum. The sessions will focus on affordable housing, heritage-based climate solutions, and partnerships for resilience:
