COP27: Tackling Urbanisation, Climate, and Poverty through Circular Economy

Urbanisation and climate change are the defining challenges of our times. The choices that will be made on urban issues now and in the coming decade will have a decisive influence on the global emissions curve: Cities are where the climate battle needs to be won. They play an ambiguous role in the fight against climate change.

While urban settlements are responsible for the bulk of global emissions, they are also the places where education and entrepreneurship come together to build hubs of innovation, including approaches to successful reusing, recycling and re-doing. 

During the event Tackling Urbanisation, Climate, and Poverty in Cities through Circular Economy at COP27, Cities Alliance will convene leading members and partners working in the field of circular economy to advance the reflection on how to strengthen existing initiatives and city-wide approaches at scale, while advocating for more inclusive and people-centred solutions.

The discussion will showcase approaches to circular economy from different countries and how they can help reconcile future challenges and find long-term solutions towards a just transition and more inclusive, sustainable urban growth. It will build on a new report recently launched by Cities Alliance and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, in collaboration with Arup. 

This in-person event will take place on 17 November at 2pm EET / 1pm CET at the UNFCCC Action Hub in the Blue Zone.
