The commitment to Cities Alliance is part of AusAID’s ongoing efforts to increase its focus on urban issues. It is a direct response to the new Cities Alliance business model, which emphasises a programmatic approach to urban development.
AusAID, the Australian government’s overseas aid programme, has signed a multi-million dollar agreement to fund the Cities Alliance over the next three years.
The agreement will make AusAID, which joined the Cities Alliance just three years ago, one of the partnership’s major bilateral donors.
The contributions will be spread out over fiscal years 2011, 2012 and 2013. For 2011, AusAID will contribute AUD 350,000 (USD 373,467), and AUD 2 million (USD 2.134 million) for each of fiscal years 2012 and 2013.
The commitment to Cities Alliance is part of AusAID’s ongoing efforts to increase its focus on urban issues. It is also a direct response to the new Cities Alliance business model, which emphasises a programmatic approach to urban development. The Cities Alliance Consultative Group decision in 2010 to make Sub-Saharan Africa a priority focus of the partnership also resonated with AusAID, which is expanding its aid to Africa.
In July 2011, Cities Alliance Programme Manager William Cobbett will visit Canberra for discussions with AusAID staff.
