A conference titled "Sustainable City Finance" was hosted by the Urban Age Institute and the New York Academy of Sciences on 7 January 2010 in New York City.
The day-long programme featured discussion and debate among more than 120 innovators in financing sustainability, greening city infrastructure, and urban economic development. The conference agenda highlighted how corporations and governments around the world are successfully partnering in order to accelerate urban projects that promote green growth.
Delegates comprising of entrepreneurs, executives, academics, representatives of international organisations and government bodies met to discuss how dual crises in the environment and the banking industry could converge to offer opportunities to transition to a cleaner, greener urban age. The conference created a forum for open dialogue on how sustainable cities can best leverage the reform of banking and credit markets.
Among the most highly regarded events at the conference was a breakout session titled “Sustainable City Finance: How it Works on the Ground”, which was moderated by Thierry Paulais, Senior Urban Finance Specialist with the Cities Alliance. Based on the success of the session and the feedback received, the organisers of the conference plan to hold a follow-up initiative in the coming months.
