Kalobeyei, Kenya 6 April 2020 — There are grave concerns over the potential impact of Covid-19 in less developed countries, and its effect on vulnerable populations all over the world. These include displaced populations, refugees and hosts that depend heavily on humanitarian operations. Although no case of Covid-19 has been reported in the settlements of Kalobeyei and Kakuma in northern Kenya, existing programming activities are being adapted to factor in the potential threat of the pandemic. This is to ensure that preventative and preparedness actions are already being taken to protect the refugees and host communities.
Activities in Kalobeyei and Kakuma are funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) through Cities Alliance, the EU Trust Fund for Africa, and the Government of Japan, in partnership with UN-Habitat.

Sustainable Economic Development Along the Turkana West Development Corridor Through Enhanced Connectivity
The Cities Alliance Cities and Migration Programme is actively working in Turkana County, including Kalobeyei integrated settlement, Kakuma camps, and the host communities to strengthen the local economy and leverage the current opportunities presented by the refugee population, their skills and networks, relationships with the host communities, and the political will of the local authorities to trigger sustainable economic development.
