[13 January 2011] -- After six years of consolidation as the united voice of local and regional authorities worldwide, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) is seeking to hire a new Secretary General to usher it into the next phase.
 
One of UCLG’s main objectives is to ensure that the interests of local governments, and of the citizens they represent, are fully taken into account in global governance. It is essential to the organisation’s work to have a dynamic and proactive team that pursues an ambitious programme on behalf of its members.
 
UCLG is looking for a motivated candidate willing to take up the challenge of leading the UCLG team in implementing the priorities identified by its members and to facilitate the strategic visioning process that the Governing Bodies of UCLG have recommended.
 
UCLG is a dynamic multicultural organisation that must remain adaptable and able to respond to new priorities emerging from our membership and from the international policy development. As such, it is seeking candidates with a clear interest in current global issues, international institutions and the decision-making process. 
 
Candidates should have strong management skills, political and cultural sensitivity, as well as the ability to promote consensus, motivate a team and achieve results. Analytical and language skills are also be a prerequisite.
 
Based in Barcelona, the UCLG Secretariat comprises a team of around 20 staff members. Prospective candidates must be eligible to work in Spain.
