South Africa to Host Ghana in South-South Knowledge Exchange

Cities Alliance and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) are organising a Ghana-South Africa exchange later this month in order to improve the capacities of various stakeholders involved in urban planning. It is being organised as part GIZ’s Support for Decentralisation Reform programme, which supports the Government of Ghana in implementing its National Urban Policy, and through the Cities Alliance Country Programme in Ghana. The exchange will take place from 22 November to 3 December 2015 in Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg/Pretoria. The objective is to learn from the innovative perspectives and good practices of urban development of South Africa, one of the most developed African countries. The Ghanaian delegation will be headed by Hon. Emmanuel K. Agyekum, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD). It will also include stakeholders of different national and local governmental bodies working in the field of urban development. The idea is for the Ghanaian delegation to share experiences with their South African counterparts in order to foster knowledge transfer and exchange, as well as to initiate networking structures. While in South Africa, the Ghanaian delegation will also participate in the 7th Africities Summit, which is taking place in Johannesburg 29 November to 3 December 2015.
