[27 June 2011] -- Cities Alliance is pleased to present the video recording of the presentation of Making Room for a Planet of Cities by Shlomo (Solly) Angel, with Jason Parent, Daniel L. Civco, and Alejandro M. Blei, held earlier this year by the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, in an event cosponsored by the Cities Alliance and the World Bank Urban Anchor.

The publication provides both the conceptual framework and, for the first time, the basic empirical data and quantitative dimensions of past, present, and future urban expansion in cities around the world that are necessary for making minimal preparations for the massive urban growth expected in the coming decades.

Speaking to a targeted audience of urban specialists from other urban institutions around the Washington DC Metropolitan area, in addition to the World Bank and Cities Alliance staff Shlomo Angel discussed how his team’s quantitative dimensions of past, present, and future urban land cover points to the urgency of adopting a “making room paradigm” as a more realistic strategy for cities and metropolitan regions to prepare for their inevitable expansion.
