Cities Alliance Welcomes Josep Roig as UCLG Secretary-General

[6 July 2011] -- The United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) Executive Bureau has selected Josep Roig as the new UCLG Secretary-General following an international recruitment process.

 

Mr. Roig has served as Secretary-General of Metropolis, UCLG’s metropolitan section, since 2000 and has been an active and founding member since 1985.

 

An economist by education, he has held various positions within the Area Metropolitana de Barcelona and served as Executive Director of the University of Barcelona from 1990-1994.

 

Mr. Roig was appointed to the post during the recent UCLG Executive Bureau meeting in Rabat, Morocco in June. The appointment is effective September 2011.
