2nd LAC Forum on Housing for Life Coming in May

[12 February 2015] – The Cities Alliance is pleased to announce the upcoming 2nd Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Forum “Vivienda para la Vida” (Housing for Life), which will be held in Monterrey, Mexico 5-8 May 2015.

The conference will bring together some 600 strategic regional stakeholders from the public and private sectors as well as civil society to exchange innovative, successful experiences around housing and public policies in the region.  

It will also look at housing through the lens of climate change, social development needs, urbanisation, and economic growth pressures. The general idea is that a holistic approach to housing is needed to help overcome social and climate change challenges, and promote economic growth.

All of the discussions will build towards the Sustainable Development Goals and Habitat III, and there will be space for gatherings such as the Right to the City platform.

Expected results include:

• Creation of a Seed Fund to support Public-Private partnerships and initiatives at scale that demonstrate the principles of the New Urban Agenda framework
• Development of recommendations for Habitat III with guiding principles, guidelines, policies and principles of action for all stakeholders
• Launching the LAC Network of Cities for Adequate Housing and Sustainable Settlements
• Initiating at least five strategic public private partnerships as a result of the Forum

 
The Cities Alliance is supporting the event in cooperation with Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Habitat International Coalition (HIC).

The Cities Alliance have a strong presence at the event. Brazil’s National Housing Secretary Inês Magalhães will attend, along with Júnia Santa Rosa, National Joint Secretary for Housing at the Ministry of Cities. Chile, which recently rejoined the Cities Alliance, will be represented by Paulina Saball, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning. Cities Alliance Director William Cobbett and Anaclaudia Rossbach, Regional Adviser for LAC, are also expected to attend.
