In 2000, more than 150 heads of state signed the Millennium Declaration. This unprecedented document provided a common vision for poverty reduction and set the stage for the creation of the Millennium Development Goals, or MDGs. For the first time, the world agreed to specific, measurable indicators to guide global development until the year 2015.
Now, as the global community comes together again to determine the next set of development goals, Habitat for Humanity International is working to make sure that housing and shelter issues are priorities.
Housing is much more than four walls and a roof. Decent housing improves people’s health, educational prospects and overall well-being, and also strengthens entire communities.
