UCLG World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders
Cities Alliance will participate at UCLG's World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders, under the Town Hall track, leading the topic of Caring Systems.
The World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders and World Congress is the largest gathering of mayors, presidents of associations, local elected officers, and practitioners from around the world. Convened by United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), it also gathers critical partners and the international system driving forward the decision-making of city and community life.
In a world facing interconnected crises, local and regional governments have worked to mitigate the worst effects of the pandemic and the climate emergency and engage in a sustainable recovery by adding the dimension of care to their service provision. The global context shed new light on the importance of local and regional governments in the construction of a culture of peace, opening pathways of dialogue and fostering local democracy and solidarity.
This year the municipal movement will gather under the motto “Local and Regional Governments Breaking Through as One”, with the purpose of developing the Pact for the Future of humanity around three axes: People, Planet and Government. The Pact will be the key outcome document of the 2022 World Congress and will define UCLG's Strategic Priorities for the next four years.
The Congress is organized around different tracks and topics. Cities Alliance is part of the Town Hall track, a process of structured dialogue between the local and regional government constituency and civil society. In collaboration with other organizations, Cities Alliance will produce policy recommendations and host an event on 12 October around the topic of Caring Systems.
