The Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) in Urban Contexts Conference, will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from March 25 - 27, 2025, bringing together government leaders, urban practitioners, and development partners to explore the integration of NbS in urban planning across the Mekong sub region.

This conference is organised through the Resilient Urban Centres and Surrounds (RUCaS) programme, supported by the Australian Government, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in collaboration with the International Centre for Environmental Management, Thailand's Department of Climate Change and Environment, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.

Cities Alliance, represented by Brigitte Hoermann, Lead of the Green Cities and Migration programme, will contribute to the session Enabling NbS Success: Policy, Governance, and Business Models for Long-Term Sustainability” on 26 March. The discussion will focus on how transboundary city networks within the Mekong region can scale NbS through inclusive policies, sustainable financing, and regional cooperation.

Australia’s leadership in promoting resilient and inclusive urban development aligns closely with Cities Alliance’s efforts in supporting collaborative, transboundary approaches for climate adaptation in Mekong cities.

The Urban Mekong Corridor Initiative (UMCI), implemented by Cities Alliance and funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), serves as the first dedicated platform for regional collaboration and investment among Mekong River cities. The initiative promotes strategic city partnerships that advance climate resilience, inclusive economic development, and improved access to public services.
