City Development Strategies and local poverty reduction strategic paper (PRSP) for the local governments of Bobo-Dioulasso, Banfora and Ouahigouya

The project's purpose is to draw up CDSs and local PRSPs for three medium-sized cities of Burkina Faso, Bobo-Dioulasso, Banfora and Ouahigouya.
1. Identify the main economic activities and major operators, quantifying the gross local product and its organic composition, to calculate the value of the local assets and the necessary resources for its maintenance, drawing up local economic accounts and assessing the exchanges between city and rural area; 2. Draw up a local development plan for the revitalization of local economy; 3. Establish a sustainable dialogue framework among local stakeholders for a more participatory local management; 4. Determine a replication framework and strategies at the national level.
The first or study phase dwells on quantification of city’s local economy , the knowledge of the contributions of the different branches of local economy and on the sub-groups of local economy, namely large enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises and the informal sector. The second phase (social dialogue and local policy) elaborates a shared vision of local development and city project, based on the feedback of the findings of the study and offers the opportunity to discuss the main identified stakes, potentials and constraints. The third phase, embarked upon internally later, based on the project's conclusions, relates to the implementation of municipal strategy and revitalization of the local economy. It entails building local coalitions capable of achieving development consistent with the local economy and its role in the national, regional and world economies.

Strengthen local governments in the promotion of local development to alleviate poverty in a sustainable manner.
