CIVIS - Special World Urban Forum 5 Issue: Case for Incremental Housing

The idea of incremental housing has been around since the '70s and '80s. This Special issue of CIVIS revisits the concept in terms of the failure of standardised contractor-led housing delivery models to respond to the overwhelming demand for space by the urban poor.

The authors argue that over time, the social and economic benefits of engaging communities and the realistic time needed for poor householders to build better quality buildings have become clearer.
