Summary
The proposed urban upgrading and disaster mitigation project is designed to reduce vulnerability to floods and landslides in the slums of La Paz.
Objectives
The primary objective is to reduce the urban poor’s risk and vulnerability to natural disasters in the slums of La Paz while employing a transparent and participatory approach to slum upgrading.
Activities
1. Stakeholder Workshops;  2. Update the feasibility study;  3. Capacity building - Education Campaign;  4. Initiate Construction of Drainage and Water Control Channels to Mitigate Damage in High-risk Slums;  5. Knowledge Sharing.
Expected Impacts and Results
1) Reduced vulnerability to floods and landslides;  2) A more reliable transportation (bus) system;  3) Increased property values;  4) Fortified decentralization process;  5) Greater transparency, accountability and responsiveness by municipal officials and administrators;  6) Greater confidence in local governments.
