Integrated Community-Based Solid Waste Management Project in Qalyubeya - Greater Cairo
• Develop an understanding of the current SWM system in the selected areas in order to develop a comprehensive SWM strategy. • Raise awareness among the local community on the existing problems and its roles and responsibilities for the improvement of the SWM system. • Develop the capacity of local administration, NGOs and informal operators on sustainable and environmentally sound methods of SWM. • Improve living and working conditions of informal waste collectors and recyclers. • Establish sustainable and officially recognized structures for the recovery and recycling of waste by adapting the Integrated Resource Recovery Centers (IRRCs) model from the UNESCAP/Waste Concern project in Bangladesh.
