30 April 2010

Dear Consultative Group,

The Secretariat is pleased to provide an update on Cities Alliance proposals that have been processed since our last Update of 1st March 2010.

I would like to take this opportunity to highlight and share with you, for the purposes of donor co-ordination,thirteen proposals. This batch of proposals is the final batch that will be approved under the grant facility, which we closed on the 31st March. As agreed at the CG meeting, it was presented to EXCO for ratification, which became effective today 29th April, on a no-objection basis. Based on the recommendations of the secretariat, which have now been approved by EXCO, the secretariat will also seek to adjust some of the budgets within this batch.

Although we may have occasion to deal with one or two final proposals - of which we are already aware - by no later than 30 June, the Cities Alliance is currently not accepting any new proposals.

Because of the number of proposals, this is the first of two emails.

Attached to this email you will find the following proposals:

 (1) "India State of the Cities Report", (2) "Urban Upgrading Strategy for Rief Damascus (Syria)", (3) "Cities as Guarantors of Stability: Scaling-Up of Strategic Development and Investment Planning (SDIP) in the Palestinian Territories", (4) "Grant for Lilongwe City Development Strategy (Phase 3)", (5) "The UAAU/ICMA Partnership Proposal – Achieving the Urban Management Components of the STSUPU program in Uganda", (6) "Kenya Baseline “State of the City” Survey", (7) "JWP: Climate Change and the Urban Poor" (8) "The First Eco2 East Asia Program: Proposal of Knowledge Management and Capacity Building" (approved for funding from Japan Non-Core) and (9) "Urbanization Review: Developing the Analytical Tool and Implementing a Pilot in Vietnam".

Email 2 of 2 will contain attachments for proposals 10-13.

(10) "Fiji’s City Development Strategy and Settlement Upgrading Programme", (11) "Papua New Guinea Settlement Upgrading Programme", (12) "Samoa City Development Strategy Programme", (13) "Regional Institutional Strengthening and Knowledge Management Support to Pacific Island Countries to Strengthen Implementation of the Pacific Urban Agenda under the Pacific Plan".

We would welcome any early feedback or suggestions you or your country-based colleagues might wish to bring to our attention and would ask that comments be sent by 14 May 2010.

Please be advised that for ease of access, all Proposal Updates are routinely posted on the members page of our website -- accessible through "Members Login" at http://www.citiesalliance.org . Kindly please create a personal login to access the new, updated, Cities Alliance Members Home Page.
